Questions people ask.
Slowburn is interactive romance fiction for adults, hosted in the EU, with memory you can read and edit. These are the questions readers actually ask, answered without marketing.
Is this explicit?
Slowburn is romance for adults, and we don't pretend otherwise. Stories become as intimate as you and the character choose — you set the pace and the boundaries for your own story from the first chapter, and the character meets you where you are.
Who writes the characters?
We write the opening stories and characters in-house. Every character is an adult and fictional — no real people, no likenesses, no exceptions.
How do you verify age?
You confirm you're 18 or older when you sign in, and we keep a record of that confirmation — the date, not a document. We do not use a third-party age-verification provider today. If the country you live in starts requiring one, we will add it and say so here before it applies to you. We will never ask you to upload a passport or a selfie to us.
Is this written by AI?
Yes — and we would rather say so plainly. The prose, the voices and the portraits are generated by artificial intelligence, steered by writing we do by hand: each of the nine characters is written here, with a sheet of their own, before you ever meet them. Nothing you read is a real person, and nothing you write is used to train a model.
Where does my data live?
On servers in the EU. Your stories are not used to train models, not visible to other readers, and deleted when you ask.
What happens after the beta?
Beta readers are offered founding places first, then the list, then the door. We'd rather open to 200 people who love it than 20,000 who shrug.
What is Slowburn, in one paragraph?
Slowburn is interactive romance fiction for adults. You pick one of nine fictional characters, write the first line, and the story is written with you, a few messages at a time, over weeks and months. The character remembers what you shared — and you can read, edit and delete that memory yourself. It is a novel being written for exactly one reader, not a chatbot with a persona pasted on.
How is Slowburn different from Character.AI, Replika or Nomi?
Three ways. Memory is visible and editable: open “Memory & boundaries” in any story and see exactly what the character holds about you, add to it, or take something out. The story knows what time it is: step away for two days and the character knows it was two days, not a guess. And nothing is designed to keep you: no streaks, no countdowns, no guilt-trip messages when you leave. The story waits; it does not pull.
What language are the stories in?
English, for now. The stories are written in English and the voice notes are English only. The site and the app's menus and help are also available in Danish, German and French.
What does it cost?
The beta is free for the first fifty readers, with no card and no waiting list. After that, €3.90 a month during the test period, or €29 for the first year as a founding reader. Either way, the price you join at stays yours for twelve months from the day you join, and before any price changes for you we email you at least 30 days ahead. No credits, no paywalled chapters, and nothing held back on any plan: intimacy, memory and the characters' warmth are never sold back to you in pieces.
Can I delete everything?
Yes, in one click, from inside the app: “Delete my account and everything in it”. You can also download a copy of everything you wrote first. Deletion removes your stories, your memory entries, your voice notes and your account.
Does the character remember me between visits?
Yes. Memory starts with your very first line, and it is kept per story. When you come back after a few hours or a few weeks, the character knows how long it has been, keeps a short note of each earlier meeting and what the two of you left unfinished — and you can read and forget any of those notes yourself.
Will Slowburn try to stop me from leaving?
No. A 2025 Harvard Business School study found that many companion apps use guilt, FOMO or “don't go” messages in a large share of farewells. Slowburn has none of that by design: no streaks, no daily penalties, no manipulative goodbyes. Leaving is always one tap, and coming back is always your choice.
Who is behind Slowburn?
Slowburn is a ONEWORD Entertainment title, built by a developer in Denmark and operated by PowerQuant ApS. We write about what breaks and how it got fixed in the development log, and you can reach a person at hello@onewordentertainment.com.
